Competition

Format & Rules
The tournament follows a simple knockout format, with a competition draw deciding the pathways to the final for each boxer in their respective weight category. Winners of each bout progress to the next round.

The winner of the final wins the gold medal while the loser gets the silver medal. Both boxers losing out in the semi-finals win bronze medals. Once a boxer has lost a bout, they do not compete again in the tournament. Medals are awarded for each weight category.
A boxing bout, for both men and women, comprises three rounds lasting three minutes. Each round is separated by a one-minute break.

The winner of each round is determined by three scoring criteria, these are:

1. Number of scoring blows (to target area);
2. Technical and tactical superiority;
3. Competitiveness.

The scoring is based on the “Ten Point Must” system, whereby judges award a score of 10 to the winning boxer, and a score of 9 or fewer to the losing boxer of each round, depending upon the degree to which it is judged that the boxer won the round.

Boxers wear protective gloves to avoid injuries and hitting the opponent anywhere below the belt or on the back of the head is prohibited.

World Boxing competition rules will apply at this tournament.
